RV Shop Desk, the Same Desk Shaped for RV Service
RV Shop Desk is the desk that runs our own auto repair shop, shaped for RV service. It quotes, gets the owner's approval on their phone, schedules, invoices and collects, and its front desk answers texts and missed calls.

The Short Version
- The same core as Shop Desk, already proven on real jobs every day.
- Owners approve the quote from their phone, wherever they are parked.
- A front desk answers texts and missed calls, so an owner on the road is not stuck with voicemail.
- Each shop's records stay walled off with row level security in Postgres.

Why an RV Shop Loses Different Hours
An auto shop fights the clock in minutes. An RV shop fights it in weeks. A coach comes in for a slide that will not close, and the tech finds more once the panels are off. The parts are bigger and take longer to come in. The owner is in a campground with one bar of signal, or they flew home and left the rig with you.
Every one of those turns creates a phone call. Where is my rig? What did I say yes to? When can I pick it up? Say a shop has twelve rigs on the lot and each owner calls twice a week. That is two dozen calls, most of them asking a question the shop already knows the answer to.
The hours go into finding that answer and saying it again, and into chasing an owner who is hard to reach. RV Shop Desk exists to give those hours back.
What We Built
We did not start over. Shop Desk already runs our own auto repair shop every day, and its core was proven on real jobs. RV Shop Desk is that same desk, shaped for RV service.
- The lead. A call or text comes in. If nobody picks up, the front desk texts back right away and starts the intake.
- The quote. The service writer builds the estimate for the rig and the complaint.
- The approval. The owner gets a link and approves the quote from their phone. It does not matter if they are next door or three states away.
- The schedule. The job lands on the board with a time.
- The invoice and payment. The invoice builds from the approved work, and the owner pays.
The name matters too. The product is always RV Shop Desk. It is not a cut down copy of the auto desk. It is the same engine, pointed at a different kind of work.
How It Is Wired
RV Shop Desk shares the auto desk's app and database design. The app is a Node service on Railway. Records live in Postgres, and row level security keeps every shop inside its own walls. The wall is in the database, not in the app code, so a bug on a screen still cannot show one shop another shop's rows.
The front desk is the same engine too. It texts back a missed call right away, keeps the thread, and hands it to a person when one steps in. For an owner who lives on the road, that text thread matters more than it does for a driver who lives down the street. A text reaches them. A voicemail waits until they find signal and remember to call.
You can see how the data wall is built on the Postgres and row level security page.
What We Learned Shaping It
One Core, Not a Fork
The quick way to make an RV product is to copy the auto code and change it. Then every fix has to be made twice, and one copy always falls behind. We kept one core. When the auto shop finds a bug on a busy morning, the fix reaches RV shops too.
The Phone Is the Front Counter
An RV owner rarely stands at your counter. Approval on the phone, a text back on a missed call and a thread they can scroll back through are not extras for them. They are how the shop is reached at all. That is why the front desk and phone approval matter most here.
The Name Is Part of the Product
Calling it by a short name in one place and a long one in another confuses owners and search engines alike. It is RV Shop Desk everywhere, in copy, in titles and in links.
What We Deliberately Left Out
Shaping software for a new trade is mostly deciding what not to promise.
- No live parts ordering. The desk does not place orders with a supplier for you. We would rather say that up front than film a screen that is not real.
- No card payments without a setup call. Just like the auto desk, a shop needs its own payment gateway. The desk refuses to bill through anyone else's account.
- No rental module. Service and rentals are different jobs. The desk runs service. If a shop also rents rigs, that lives somewhere else for now.
Saying what is not built is part of the build. It keeps a shop from finding out the hard way.
What It Means When You Switch It On
Your owners can reach you by text and approve work from wherever they are parked. Your missed calls get a text back before the owner gives up. Your invoices build from the work that was approved, so nobody retypes them. And every approval is on file, so a question about what was agreed ends in a minute.
You also skip the part where software gets tested on your customers. The core has run a real repair shop every day before it ever ran yours.
If you want to see where the core came from, read about Shop Desk.
Questions People Ask
Is RV Shop Desk a different product from Shop Desk?
It is the same core, shaped for RV service. It quotes, gets approval, schedules, invoices and collects, and its front desk answers texts and missed calls.
Can an RV owner approve work while they are traveling?
Yes. They get a link by text and approve the quote from their phone.
Will my customers have to download an app?
No. Texts and approval links open in the phone's browser.
Can I take card payments on day one?
Not on day one. You need your own payment gateway, and that takes a setup call.
